Job Title: Semicolon Offsite Manager

Location: Both Chicago Locations (Halsted St only -May 2024, when East Garfield Park location will open)

Job Summary: The Offsite Manager is responsible for overseeing offsite operations, such as pop-up shops, book fairs, and offsite events, to promote the mission of the bookstore, increase revenue, and engage with the community. This role involves planning, organizing, and managing offsite initiatives to expand the reach and impact of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Offsite Event Planning and Execution:

    • Identify and coordinate offsite opportunities, including pop-up shops, book fairs, festivals, and other community events.

    • Plan and execute logistics for offsite events, including inventory selection, transportation, setup, and staffing.

    • Ensure a welcoming and customer-friendly environment at offsite locations.

  2. Sales and Revenue Generation:

    • Set sales targets and goals for offsite events and initiatives.

    • Implement pricing strategies to maximize revenue while staying competitive.

    • Promote and sell books and merchandise to customers at offsite locations.

  3. Community Engagement:

    • Build and maintain relationships with event organizers, community partners, and local businesses.

    • Act as a representative of the nonprofit, conveying its mission and values to the community.

    • Engage with customers, answer questions, and provide information about the nonprofit's programs and initiatives.

  4. Inventory Management:

    • Ensure accurate inventory tracking and management at offsite locations.

    • Monitor stock levels and coordinate restocking as needed.

    • Collaborate with the main bookstore to coordinate inventory transfers.

  5. Marketing and Promotion:

    • Develop marketing strategies specific to offsite events to attract a diverse audience.

    • Utilize social media and other promotional channels to create awareness and interest in offsite initiatives.

    • Create promotional materials and signage as needed.

  6. Financial Reporting:

    • Maintain records of sales, expenses, and revenue generated from offsite events.

    • Prepare financial reports and reconcile cash and sales transactions.

    • Ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor's degree preferred).

  • Proven experience in event planning, sales, or retail management.

  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Passion for literature and reading.

  • Proficiency in computer software and point-of-sale systems.

The Offsite Manager plays a critical role in expanding Semicolon’s reach and engaging with the community through offsite events. This is a salaried position ($54-$60k/year to start, dependent upon experience) and offers benefits.
